Oratrix Development specializes in the development of authoring and player systems for Web-based
multimedia. The first suite of products available from Oratrix is based on the W3C SMIL standard,
which we helped develop in 1998. Future products will support other formats for multimedia from
a range of major vendors of multimedia players.
Oratrix Development has been active in the development of SMIL 1.0 and SMIL 2.0 from the
start of the SMIL standardization process. Oratrix released the world's first SMIL player in 1998,
and the beta versions of the GRiNS Player for SMIL 2.0 (again the world's first!) have been tested by
thousands of users worldwide. In addition to custom and enterprise player support, Oratrix also
distributes the award-winning series of GRiNS authoring tools for SMIL.
Oratrix Development is winner of the McKinsey NewVenture'98
competition and is a member of the Twinning
Network group of companies. The company has its roots at
CWI, a non-profit research
center in Amsterdam and is an out-growth of CWI's Multimedia
and Human-Computer Interaction research work on authoring support
for complex multimedia applications.
