How do I specify Clip
Begin and Clip End times?
In the Properties dialog for a video item you
can specify the Clip Begin and End times in two formats the first
simply specifies the segment of video that will play:
Clip Begin entry is 'npt=123.45s'
or
Clip Begin entry is 'npt=12:05:35.3'
The second allows you to specify the actual
frame from which the segment will play and the frame on which
the segment will end:
Clip Begin entry is 'smpte=10:12:33.20'
How do I create links
between items?
You can also link to other SMIL presentations
or to Web pages by using the Anchor tab in the Properties dialog.
You can create anchors for media items and then connect them
to destinations or have them used as a destination you use the
Hyperlink View. The Hyperlink view has all the information you
need to create links in both directions and select the type of
behaviour that you require when moving between the media items.
Can I have more than
one link attached to a media item?
Yes, you can have many links on one item. You
can create separate links that go to different destinations from
one link. These links can also have timings associated with them.
So, in fact, you can have links which are only selectable at
predetermined intervals.
How do I create files
for both G2 and standard SMIL?
Difference is the support for media items.
Real uses it's own proprietory formats, which aren't supported
by all SMIL Players. Real's media items are supported by both
the GRiNS Player and the G2 Player.
What are the default
differences between GRiNS for G2 and GRiNS for
SMIL?
Defaults can be different, background colour
of G2 is black and SMIL is white where transparency on is the
default.
I have problems using
transparency when playing back files in Real's G2 Player.
Real's G2 Player doesn't support transparency
and this means that your channel regions are visible all the
time. That is why you can see the background of your channel
region. Occassionally this will give real problems where it will
obscure the region behind it. Use the Z-Order in the Position
and Size tab to bring your channel to the front.
How can I prevent
my media from being automatically converted?
Unchecking the Convert option in the Conversion
Tab will prevent that particular media item from being converted.
This is especially useful if you have already converted you media
item to the correct format.
How can I specify
Fade In and Out effects for images?
Using a RealPix channel you can create a sequence
of images which can have many transitional effects including,
Fade In and Out, Wipes and the pan and zoom effect of Viewchange.
I want to see how
my media items will behave in the presentation. Is there a Timeline?
Yes, there is a Timeline View which will allows
you to see which items get played together as well as being able
to see which items will get played next.
Is there an Upgrade
path for new product versions?
Yes, we have competitive upgrade discounts,
simply contact us at grins-support@oratrix.com
and we'll send you the information on how to obtain the discount.
Were can I get more
information on how to use RealNetwork's RealPix?
If you want to create RealPix files manually
then you need to know the specification of the file contents.
All of this information is contained in RealNetwork's RealPix
Guide which is available from:
http://service.real.com/help/library/guides/realpix/realpix.htm
Can I use different
fonts and text colours in my RealText file?
Yes, unfortunately you have to edit this by
hand but using different coloured text in the RealText file is
easy. For more information on using and specifying RealText files
look at RealNetwork's Guide at:
http://service.real.com/help/library/guides/realtext/realtext.html
How do I create an
external link from my presentation to a Web page?
This type of link can be created by using the
Hyperlink view and by selecting 'External' from the right list
box. You will then see that the 'Add external
' button has
become available. You can now insert the URL for the page your
want to link to. To complete the link simply select the media
item from which you want to link from and open the Properties
dialog where you can now create a new Anchor. This anchor may
cover the whole image or part of an image or it may even be over
a duration of a movie. Finally in the Hyperlink View select the
newly created anchor from the left list box and the destination
URL in the right list box, click the button in the center to
make the connection between the two then you're ready to playback
the media item and watch the jump in action.
How do I create a
link to another SMIL presentation?
This type of link creation is easily created
using the Hyperlink View and the Anchor Tab in the Properties
dialog. In the Properties dialog select the Anchor tab and then
create a new anchor. This anchor can be over the whole image,
part of the image or over a duration of time in a movie. Next
open the Hyperlink View and from the right menu choose 'External'
you will now be able to use the 'Add external
' button where
you can specify the path to the .smi file. Please note that this
can be a local path or an external path to the file on a server.
Finally in the Hyperlink view with the new anchor selected on
the left and the external destination selected on the right,
by selecting the middle button 'Add' you can finish the link.
Can I use my Powerpoint
slides in my SMIL presentation?
Yes, you can. Using Real's presenter which
is available for download at:
http://www.realnetworks.com/products/presenter/related_products.html
You can add a voice over or video to your Powerpoint
presentation and then use the .rp file and .rm file (where the
.rp file contains your images and the .rm file has either your
audio or video) in your SMIL presentation.
Why does my RealText
region have a small red square at the bottom of it during play
back?
If you see a small red square at the bottom
of a RealText channel this indicates that the region is too small
to display all of the text in the RealText file. You need to
make the region larger or reduce the amount of text to be displayed.
How do I enlarge
the Player window size?
By opening the Layout View and selecting the
title of the Player window (sometimes its called root-layout)
and next select the Properties button then you can change the
Player window size in the Window Size tab.
How do I see how
the presentation will play at a narrower bandwidth?
This is easy in GRiNS, before playing
back your presentation choose the 'Preferences
' dialog
from the Edit menu and in the 'System bitrate' list box choose
the connection that your target audience will be using. After
OKing and exiting the dialog when you playback the presentation
you will be able to see how things playback at the lower (or
higher) connection.
I want to use Flash
files in my presentation is that a problem?
GRiNS Editor supports Flash files (.swf
extension) and Real's G2 Player also supports Flash. Simply create
a video channel and you can place the Flash media item in the
channel. You can then attach hyperlinks to this item too.
